Wigwams Project 2008
WIGWAMS IN WALSALL
On the 10th and 11th of April, the Art Department at St Francis of Assisi CTC, held the first East Art Collaborative event aimed at Year 9 Art Students who chose Art within their GCSE Options and the Gifted and talented.
Mr I.K Preston the Co- coordinator of the project stated that ‘The aim of the project was to raise the awareness to the visual arts through the practice of larger 3 dimensional forms, and raise awareness to Carbon Footprint issues’.
Student Artists collected their own re-cycled materials such as old tinsel, sweet wrappers, bottle tops and small items made of plastic and wood, in order to collage a pattern design onto the surface of the Wigwams which were constructed from bamboo cane and plastic film.
Student Artists from Aldridge School, Streetly School and Shire Oak School (from the North Collaborative), worked successfully with St Francis Of Assisi CTC students, creating the opportunity for greater pastoral exchange and a creative teaching and learning partnership. It also gave opportunity for Art Teachers and Heads of Art to Network and share good practice.
The general response to the project was very positive, with students commenting on each others work and giving positive feedback that they hoped for more activities like this in the future.
The project was funded by The East Collaborative Fund.
