CityScapes 2009
Our second East Collaborative Visual Arts Event took place at St Francis of Assisi CTC on June 2nd and the 3rd. The theme was based around Cityscapes, and student artists focused their attention on Birmingham. The first task was to create a large photomontage created from different photographs of new and old architecture in Birmingham. Students created a crowded bustling metropolis which was surreal and contained contrasting architectural shapes and forms. The photomontage was divided into 25 sections and each piece was given to a student to develop using media. Students used colour subjectively basing their response around city pollution and its effect on our own local environment. Once the mixed media artworks were finished they were placed back together like a jigsaw. The finished piece demonstrated the individual styles of drawing and painting done by students within a collaborative context. Each school produced their own collaborative piece, and all schools will display their outcome together to create 1 large panorama.
